Art Journaling 101 New Class Series

New Art Journaling Class Starting Saturday May 31st

What is Art Journaling?

Art journaling is about the creative process of pulling together colour, words and images onto a page. Unlike other forms of art, this is not about the outcome, it’s about the process.  An art journal is only for you - there is nothing to stop you from sharing, but an art journal is your safe place for experimentation and for play.’

What do you learn?

In this 6 class series students will learn the basics of art journaling.  The students will experiment with different supplies (teacher provided) to help them find their preferred mediums.

The course is intended to enable the creative souls of participants to emerge on the page.

Workshop Outline

CLASS 1: Art Journal Laboratory

In this class we cover the course in general, and surfaces.  Students will learn how much their paper can cope with, limitations of surface choice and how to change your surface.
Students will test a range of Liz’s own products on various surface preparations, creating 2 journal spreads in this class.  This provides the basis for learning to layer.

CLASS 2:  Colour my World

Students will learn all about colour theory and create their own colour wheel, embedding it onto a journal page.
Students will also learn some of the tips and tricks to using different types of paint – changing opacity as required, and creating layers.

CLASS 3: Making your Pages Speak

In this class students start the journey to loving their handwriting.  We cover Journal spilling and how to write your own fancy headings.
We also start cutting into the edges of our pages – a journal should never be a “sacred object”.

CLASS 4: Collage, Ink & Stamps

Students will learn to create a fantastical collage that utilises magazine pages, paint and ink.  We will cover sources, copyright, how to maximise the value of shapes.
We also cover the basics of ink and how best to use different types.

CLASS 5: Texturize That!

This session is all about Extreme Texture – how to get it, and how to maximise its value with paint and ink.
This class also deals with the creation of foreground and background texture.

CLASS 6: Altered Images

This class is all about image transfers.  Students will learn about how to do an image transfer into a journal, the best time to use a transfer instead of collage and how to incorporate transfers into layers.
In every class
Students receive a comprehensive set of notes both for reference and reinforcement. The notes also include instructions on how to complete the class spread and how-to’s for homework spreads to be done in the intervening month.
Students also receive a list of internet links, and some art journal inspiration around the class theme.

All of this for $40.00 a month.....
